Caption: The male mate of Wisdom, a banded female Laysan albatross thought to be at least 60 years old, takes a running start to leave their nest area after feeding their chick on March 20, 2011. He will fish at sea. The albatross colonies on Midway Atoll were impacted by the March 10 tsunami, but many adult albatrosses and chicks survived.

Non-breeding sub-adult Laysan albatrosses rest in an area overwashed by the March 10 tsunami.  Many chicks were swept from their nests in this area. If they were not immediately drowned, their parents must locate them upon return from the sea in order to feed them.
