Comments: A still life composition which celebrates the natural beauty of simple brown organic eggs, in a hand-woven basket with a back-drop of draped hand-made antique lace taken in the morning sunlight. Beautiful dramatic shape and shadows are created by the woven basket pattern. These simple eggs are from free-range, cage-free female chickens who are fed a vegetarian diet their entire lives. They are not ever in Battery cages which are cramped, unhygienic causing pain and suffering to the chickens. This pain has caused the Battery-caged chickens to self-mutilate and die struggling in the cramped environment. While shoppers would prefer to pay less for an egg, they would probably never knowingly engage in cruelty towards the hen who lays the egg which creates their breakfast. The hen fed a vegetarian diet often lays eggs with higher nutrient value as well. This cruelty issue was raised at Harvard University in the 2007 - 2008 school year by a graduate Education student, AnnaLise S. Hoopes, who went on to mobilize student groups by simply providing information about the practices of raising caged chickens for producing eggs used in the dining halls of Harvard University. These students went on to share information with the University and in a heroic and compassionate move, Harvard University changed their eggs used in all dining halls on campus to hens who were cage-free, free-range animals, free from unnecessary suffering. This same student group under the leadership of Ms. Hoopes then organized themselves after the successful cage-free egg campaign and founded the Harvard University Vegetarian Society. It continues to flourish, as do the students who are fed nutritious dining hall food at Harvard University, Cambridge MA. Written by Margaret M. Savino, Ph.D. Copyright, 2010

Mammoth sunflower blossom opening in summer silhouette against a blue sky. Sunflowers have been an icon in art for many cultures. They feed the birds and wildlife with their seeds, and provide essential oil for humans. They are a versatile crop, and when ready to harvest create a breath-taking sight. © 2008 Margaret M. Walt Disney created a magical world with his characters of fantasy. The daily parade at Disney World, Orlando Florida is an exciting moment for kids and adults alike, as they encounter characters whom they've only imagined. The realistic portrayal, music, costuming and performance by the actors/players enhances the crowds' enjoyment!
