Caption: Demolition of the Ghost City of Fengdu in 2003 required relocating the 700,000 residents to a new city on the opposite bank of the Yangtze River. The controversial Three Gorges Dam was planned to raise the water level 185 meters and create a reservoir 660 kilometers long flooding many archaeological and cultural sites that were unable to be moved.
