Ice age flooding (Spokane Flood) carved the region, leaving these rocky scablands lower than the level of the plateau seen across the river (Horse Heaven Hills). The prominent rock formation shown here is known as both Two Sisters and Two Captains (or Twin Captains). The former name is of Indian heritage, while the latter is in honor of Lewis & Clark.
