Snowgeese light off from pond with Rocky Mountain background at Freezeout Lake WMA near Choteau, Montana. I was glad that it was cold enough (15 degrees) to keep the heatwaves in check as this is often an issue as the ground warms up with a long telephoto lens.

They always take off like 10 minutes too early! Guess, that will keep me coming back for another 30 years until I capture "the shot" I dream of.

Large Flock of snowgeese on pond at Freezeout Lake WMA near Choteau, Montana. The birds massed at this pond near Priest Butte in the afternoon literally covering the entire lake at one point. I spent most of the afternoon watching the changing dynamics and chatting with fellow bird watchers.

Closeups of Snowgeese at Freezeout Lake WMA near Choteau, Montana. I couldn't believe that the birds came right up to shore where I was standing. Enjoyed their presence as soon (within an hour) they would be gone heading north towards the arctic.

Male Pheasant in grasslands at Freezeout Lake WMA near Choteau, Montana. After the geese lifted off I headed for my "pheasant spot" and was not disappointed. This guy had about 15 hens in his harem. The males are not as skittish when they have "other" things on their mind. LOL

Mature Bald Eagle in flight at Freezeout Lake WMA near Choteau, Montana. This was, by far, the most bald eagle activity I have seen during my visits to the refuge. Maybe, because it was two weeks later than usual, but there had to be 15-20 eagles feasting on the carp that live in the lake.
