The Northern Lights over Lake McDonald in Glacier National Park, Montana. This was night #1 of the aurora. It was a bit too cloudy and eventually began to rain. I do like this image however as the clouds contrast nicely with the purplish aurora colors.

Historic bridge spanning the Dearborn River near Augusta, Montana. Originally built in 1897. The Dearborn River High Bridge is thought to be the last example of a pin-connected half-deck truss bridge in the United States.

Reflection in the current of the North Fork of the Teton River in the Lewis and Clark National Forest, Montana. A good teaching moment during my class as I spotted the color in the water from the sunset light on a nearby mountain in the current. 165mm lens, 1/5th second, F14, ISO 50 were the perfect settings to bring this composition to life.

The Milky Way over Rattlesnake Butte in Choteau, Montana. 3am departure to this nearby butte. It was challenging finding a suitable subject as we had to face south. The foreground was shot @ 5 minutes (bulb setting) and a lower ISO to keep the noise down and then combined with the starry shot.

On this evening we were light chasing at the end of the day and always seemed to be a couple minutes too late when the sun went back behind the clouds. Not to despair as the final light show ended up back at my old reliable granary and once again I came up with something unique at a most photographed location. This look great on the wall as a glossy acrylic print!

Male Pheasants battle it out at Ninepipe WMA near Ronan, Montana. This was a case where I had too much lens and that does not happen with bird photography very often. I missed many images where the birds were both in air with talons out as my 600mm with 1.4xt was too tight. I should have had my Canon 100-500m at the ready. I used the "radial blur" filter in Photoshop to enhance a sense of motion with this fast action.

Trumpeter Swans battle it out at Pablo NWR near Polson, Montana. Brian Oakwood and I had front row seats for another territorial squabble as these swans went at each other hard for about 10 minutes. I feared one of them would be injured or worse, but both came out feisty and alive.
