Simakobu monkeys (also known as pig-tailed langurs) are endemic to the Mentawai Islands in Indonesia. Found only on four small islands, simakobus are one of the most endangered primates in Asia. It is believed that this species of leaf monkey is most closely related to the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus) of Borneo.
