Comments: White spruce tree 'windsailed' or 'flagged' by strong winds. Continual exposure to fierce, freezing winds causes vegetation to become stunted and deformed. Winds coming from the same direction during storms, strip branches from one side of the three and can cause a 'flag' effect. This is also called the Krumholz effect and is a particular feature of subarctic and subalpine tree line landscapes. Churchill, Manitoba, Canada.
