Comments: A highly decorated Devata (female divinity) adorns a wall at The Bayon, Sometimes these female figures are referred to as "Apsaras, but it is convention in Khmer Hindu mythology to call the dancing figures "Apsaras" & the standing figures "Devatas." But the two names are often interchanged in the literature. The Bayon, Angkor Thom. Khmer Buddhist. Built near the end of the 12th Century by King Jayavarman VII (reigned 1181-1220). Although the origins of this temple are Buddhist, Hindu elements such as Devatas & Apsaras are common. Angkor, Cambodia.
