SPECIALTIES Pacific Northwest, U.S. West Coast travel, nature and landscapes from a unique perspective often including but not limited to distorted angles, reflections and motion blur. I also shoot the same subjects 'straight' as well to cover my bases.
GEOGRAPHIC AREAS North America: Arizona, British Columbia, California, New Mexico, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington. Pacific: Hawaii, Oahu, Big Island.
RECENT COVERAGE New work in Washington state of the small picturesque towns of Langley and Coupeville, Ebey's Landing National Historic Preserve, and the Keystone Ferry. On the Olympic Peninsula new work includes winter Surfing, Port Angeles, Neah Bay, Olympic National Park, Salt Creek Recreational Area, historic barns of Sequim, the Strait of Juan de Fuca, and movie locations for the motion picture, Twilight.
PHOTOGRAPHIC PLANS I want to continue to add to my Surfing collections with more Pacific Northwest board, stand up paddle and kayak surfing. I plan on shooting profiles of interesting surfers up and down the Pacific Coast. I'm also shooting endangered land on the Olympic Peninsula for the North Olympic Land Trust that includes historic barns of Sequim, and land along the rapidly developing Dungeness Delta. I'm interested in starting an online surfing magazine to cover all types of surfing, not just boards. I'll be traveling to Scandinavia in the fall of 2009.
CREDITS Magazines/Newspapers: AudioFile, Country Home, The Manchester Guardian, National Geographic Adventure, New York Times, Outside, Photo District News, Real Change, Real Simple, Sea Kayaking, Seattle Magazine, Seattle Business Monthly, Seattle Metropolitan, Seattle PI (former), Spin, Sunset, USA Today. Books: Random House UK, Little Brown, Grove Press, Hanging Loose Press, The Mountaineers, Vintage.
RELATED CREDENTIALS/SKILLS I work as a sea kayaking and surf kayaking instructor and guide in the Pacific Northwest. I'm currently training to instruct and guide for stand up paddle surfing. My background includes a degree in the fine arts, and several years working in various roles in the commercial film industry in Los Angeles and Seattle on car spots and shows such as Curb Your Enthusiasm.
COMMENTS I work simply with minimal gear using Canon's new 21mp 5d, and occasionally a backup 12mp Canon 5d. While I still have my medium and 35mm film cameras, I haven't used them in years. I usually carry one simple flash but have a full studio of strobes and hotlights for when the need arises. In addition to stock, I'm also available for assignments and for nonprofit work depending on the organization. I'm willing to travel at anytime.
NONEDITORIAL SERVICES I've taught workshops for Coupeville Arts Center north of Seattle as well as for the Mountaineers Club in Seattle. My work has been shown by the Seattle Art Museum, the Jan Kesner Gallery in Los Angeles, PhotoLA, among others. Private collections include Elton John and Disney. My images are available as hospitality and corporate art, as well as for personal collections. Contact us for more info.
