NATURAL HISTORY Birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, arthropods, wildflowers, scenics, habitats; complete life history of monarch butterfly from mating, egg laying, egg hatching, etc.
SPECIALTIES Birds. Extensive collection of Kirtland's warblers in Michigan's Jackpine ecosystem, since 1969. Includes males singing, portraits, females, nesting, eggs, habitats, banding, habitat management. Also, other warbler and songbird species and other birds in general -- portraits, nesting and flight. Extensive coverage of eastern and midwestern birds of prey, especially red-tailed hawks and great horned, saw-whet and screech owls.
GEOGRAPHIC AREAS Primarily eastern and midwestern United States. Some coverage in other parts of the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Africa and India.
RECENT COVERAGE Michigan for Kirtland's warblers (an annual event); southern Ontario and eastern Pennsylvania for migrating hawks and eagles (also annual events); Arkansas, inspecting and shooting ivory-billed woodpecker habitat.
PHOTOGRAPHIC PLANS Return to Arkansas in quest of ivorybills, Available for specific assignments.
CREDITS Hundreds of credits in many countries and languages, including major magazines, textbooks, field guides, calendars, and advertising. Served as photo co-ordinator for recent Birds of North America, (Smithsonian) and author of numerous articles and five books on birds.
RELATED CREDENTIALS/SKILLS Sixty-one years photographic experience since first photo of a red-shouldered hawk in 1944. Sold first illustrated article to magazine at age 18. Thirty years as a park ranger, retired 1983. Official photographer for Cincinnati Ohio Zoo 1983-1998. Raptor rehab since 1944. Master bird-bander since 1950. Concentrated on acquirng video footage of birds from late 1980s until recently. Studied movements of wintering saw-whet Owls and American woodcocks using telemetry in late 1960s and early 1970s. Pioneered in developing modern traping methods for banding raptors.
NONEDITORIAL SERVICES Occasional workshops, illustrated programs for birding groups, field trips to view specific species. A few arts & crafts shows offering various size Glicee double-matted fine-art prints, which are also available on website.
